During the last 21 years, first at Sun Microsystems and then at Cisco, I developed a process to find the best early-career talent (ECT) candidates in the world and bring them to Silicon Valley for temporary, 1-year placements. Much of the time I have focused on finding ECT software engineers and meeting the needs of Silicon Valley clients engaged in software development. ECTs come to learn, to develop their skills, to grow, and to work on extremely challenging and strategic client projects. When properly placed and empowered by our clients, ECTs make a major contribution to the client’s business.Also, the approach I developed lends itself to creating a talent pipeline of international ECTs, which can be particularly valuable for workforce globalization.
